NATURAL HEALTH PRACTITIONERS IN NIGERIA (III)

*DR. JUSTINA EKANEM studied nursing at Greenwich Hospital, London and Midwifery at Bristol Maternity hospital, England.

On returning from England, she worked at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

She retired as a senior matron and embarked on her first love- natural medicine, for which she had had training from several masters including the past chairman of Lagos State Board of Traditional Medicine, Dr. Kolawole Komolafe.

She is a graduate of the Nigeria College of Natural Medicine and a registered member of the Lagos State Board of Traditional Medicine.

She is involved in alternative medical practice with special interest in infertility and male impotence including aromatherapy.

Her hobbies include gardening and fashion designing. She loves natural foods and at least a salad meal a day.

*DR. CYRIL OMISANDE; born in Jos, he did not start out to become an alternative medicine practitioner.

Instead he studied automobile engineering from Madras College of Engineering, India, in 1981. By 1986, when he came back to Nigeria, he was already a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport, as well as the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of England. He worked briefly for Temple and Guilders Nigeria Limited as Transport Manager.

The son of a traditional medicine practitioner, his interest got the better of him, and in 1993, he enrolled in the Institution of Alternative Medicine India, where he obtained Diploma in Alternative Medicine with emphasis in Ayurvedic and Magneto-therapy. He also bagged a Masters Degree from the International University of Complimentary Medicine in India.

Dr. Cyril,whose area of speciality is in magneto-therapy and herbal medicine is married with kids.

His favourite food is Eba with Ewedu soup. He loves reading, research works and being alone.

*DR. CHINYERE OGBONNA was born about 50 years ago in Umuaku Village, in Isiala-Ngwa Local Government of Abia State.

She attended Anglican Trade School Aba, Abia State. For her training in nursing and Midwifery, she went to Methodist Hospital, Ama-Achara, and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Umuahia respectively.

She retired as a nursing sister from Holy Trinity Hospital in 1983 and became a co-director of Ugo Medical Center and Maternity Home.

In the quest of natural healing, she has attended many institutions. Among these are Pen Institute of Herbal Studies and Body Works New Jersey U.S.A and Mary Mark College of Herbal Processing Lund, Sweden.

Dr. Chinyere Ogbonna, is the first Nigerian to turn Sorrel (Sorobodo-Hausa) into tea bags. She is a naturopath, clinical nutrition therapist and masseuse. She is also the author of “Secrets of Health and Longevity.”

Her hobbies are reading, writing and gardening.

*QUINCY SUMBO AYODELE, the celebrated herbal slimmer, on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, believes in the power of herbs for slimming purposes.

The London-trained (but Ijebu born) beauty therapist initially studied secretarial administration at Ogun State Polytechnic, now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

She went for further studies at Pitman Central College, London. When she came back, she worked as the personal assistant to the Managing Director of Societe Generale Bank.

*MR. OLAJUWON OKUBENA, a retired Peat Marwick Chartered Accountant is probably best known for Jobelyn Blood Formula,a herbal preparation which he helped introduce to the world.

*DR. HILDA ADOKPAYE’s career in alternative medicine started 14 years ago, although she had trained as a journalist, specializing in speed writing.

* DR. SAMUEL FAFURE was born about 60 years ago at Ijesha Isu, Ekiti State, to the royal family of Elekole, of Ikole Ekiti, Ekiti State.
He attended Hossanah African Church School, Ijesa Isu, Ekiti State,
Local Authority Secondary Modern School Ikole Ekiti: 1957 – 1959.
He passed the Government Trade Test Grade 3 in Domestic



*MS. TITI ODUYE OF Amelia’s Holistic Health Consultancy is in her forties and was born in London, U.K. She attended Holistic Health College U.K. Institute of Bioenergetics, U.S.A. She is a Bioforce phytotherapist and is a member of some associations, include the Guild of Naturo-pathic iridologists, International Association Bioenergetic Practitioners, British Herbal Medicine Association and the Nigerian Council of Physicians of Natural Medicine, NCPNM.

She was formerly an education officer at the federal ministry of education from 1983 to 1986. Also, she was a lecturer at Lagos State Polytechnic from 1986 – 1989.
